Skiing with dad!

In a couple of weeks my dad and I are going skiing with my cub scout pack! I am very excited! I have never been skiing. We are going to take lessons, drink hot chocolate, and stay up late. We will be sleeping in cabins with the other families. I think I am going to like skiing. I've seen people do it and it looks like a lot of fun. You have to be careful, though, because you can get hurt. My dad has been skiing many times, so I can learn from him! I can't wait!

PINEWOOD DERBY!

I am in Cub Scouts. This is my third year. I am a Bear! We are having our Pinewood Derby race this weekend. I didn't get to do the race last year. I raced when I was a tiger. It was so much fun! I designed my car. I sanded the car. I worked very hard to paint my car. It took me all day to do two coats of paint! I did everything by myself except cut the car. That is too dangerous. I put the number 64 on my car. I didn't choose the number for any reason, I just like that number. I hope I win first place. When I was a tiger I got fifth place.

I will post when the race is over!

Today was excellent!

Today I learned how to do something really hard- long division. Crystal taught me to do long division today. At first it was really hard to understand. There were a lot of steps to remember and you have to be really careful not to get the wrong number or put your answer in the wrong place. If you did that you could get a totally wrong answer! I worked really hard to learn how to do it. We did problem after problem with Crystal helping at first to do the whole problem, but showing me the steps until at the end I was doing it by myself! Now I understand how to do long division and I feel good!

Also, we played our multiplication game! I played against my sister Annie. We went over 2s-5s. It was a close game! I won! I got to draw the prize out of the bag. Tomorrow we are having a pizza party and playing a board game called Head of The Class!

This was a fun day!

Silence means playing in the snow!

I have not blogged in a couple of days because we have had SNOW! How I built my snow man. I took a snow ball and rolled and rolled and rolled until it got BIG. I did that again and again until I had three snow balls! Then, I stacked them on top of each other. I stuck two sticks in the sides of the middle snowball. I put two acorns in the top snow ball for eyes. I used my finger to draw a smile! Together with my sister we made SIX snow men! It was a lot of fun! We had snow ball fights, made snow angels, and went sledding on the big hill in my neighborhood. We used a canoe to sled! It was really fast, and super scary! The second time, I crashed, flipped and the canoe was on top of me! I didn't get hurt, though. Then my older sister went in the canoe and crashed into a pole. It was funny. She has a bruise. Crystal baked cookies because we didn't have hot chocolate. The cookies were my favorite part!

I'm pretty excited about next week. I am going to take three classes at the local co-op school. I'm taking Bible study, Spanish and SCULPTING! I'm going to get to build things with clay and wires and other cool stuff. I am a little upset that the LEGO robotics class if full, but Crystal says I can take that class next year for sure! I'm mainly excited about meeting new kids and playing with other children! I hope to make lots of new friends!

Red Alert

Right now I am reading a book called Red Alert. It's about a dog. I haven't read much, but so far it's pretty good. Red alert lives with a family on a farm. The part I read today was about when the barn catches on fire for some reason. The little boy in the story sees the barn on fire and he wakes his parents. The fire department comes to put the fire out. I haven't read anything else yet, but I have a feeling that Red Alert will save them somehow!

If I were a dog...

If I were a dog I could lay around. I would have no school or homework. I wouldn't have to hunt for food. I can eat all day long. I can eat treats all day. I would be able to take a bath and play in the bubbles. People would pet me if I were a dog. They will give me a belly rub. I will give them lots of kisses. Someone would walk me every day. They will love and kiss me. I would not have to have a job. If I were a dog I could go outside whenever I wanted to. I can come back inside whenever I wanted to also! If I were a dog, I would not attack anyone. I would be a nice dog.

Not training to be a warrior, just cub scouts!

I read a story about the ancient Greek people called the Spartans. I found this story interesting so I thought I would blog about it. When a boy is 7 years old in Sparta someone would come and take the boy from his mother to train him for war. The boy would learn wrestle and fight like a soldier. The boy would not get much food or clothing. He would have to live with other boys his age and soldiers. They starved the boys so that they would fight each other for food and if they wanted to eat, they must go hunt alone. It was supposed to teach the boy to be strong. When he went off to war, his mother would say, "Come back with your shield or on it." I think this means that you have to keep up with all of your war equipment. The story said that if the soldier lost his shield, he would be shamed. When I lost my ipod, I got in a lot of trouble, but nothing like that! The story told me that there is honor in dying for Sparta for a warrior. Coming back on your shield, means you died for your land and people.

If someone came to take me away to live with soldiers, I'd be scared. I wouldn't want to leave my family at 7 years old! I'm 8 now and all I have to worry about is cleaning my room and doing my chores! I think this makes me a pretty lucky kid.

I love LEGOs!

I love LEGOs! Why? I love to build things. I love to use my imagination. You can build anything with LEGOs- spaceships, airplanes, battleships, and cars! Then you can take them apart, and build them all over again! You can just keep adding things to your creation until you have no more LEGOs. You can build a whole city with LEGOs! You can NEVER have too many LEGOs. You can buy LEGOs in kits or just LEGO blocks. I also like the LEGO people. They are my favorite part. I have a lot of LEGO people- maybe 15! I never get tired of playing with my LEGOs. I can build something new every day!

I heard that you can build LEGO robots and they will move by themselves- or with a controller. You can compete with them and win trophies! They have wheels and motion detectors that keep them from banging into the wall. I really want to do this soon!

And THAT is why I love LEGOs!

My hero is...

My dad is my hero. He is my hero because he is always there for me. When I am sick he makes soup for me. He works very hard for our family. He cooks fantastic meals for us every night! He plays LEGOs and cars with me all the time. He never forgets to say goodnight to me and sing our special song. He is the best dad in the world!
